Tamarillos, also known as Tree Tomatoes, are a sub-tropical mid sized tree which grow to 3-4 metres, with large soft leaves, soft stems and red, hanging, tangy flavored fruits.
Originally native to the Northern Andes of South America, the red variety was cultivated in Auckland in the 1920’s.

Eat fresh by cutting in half and scoop out the tangy, sweet pulp, or use in desserts, pies, fruit salad, sauces, or chutneys.
